Previously Heather was Association Chairman of the Premier League Beaconsfield Constituency and has been working closely with Conservatives Abroad for the last four years, setting up branches in the Gulf States – Gulf Tories – and also engaging with other British expatriates working overseas for voter registration.

Many of you will know Heather from the Conservatives Abroad Conferences in Mallorca, Krakow and London.  She looks forward to working with all of you to address the many issues facing British expatriates living and working overseas.”

It is possible due only to the generosity of Pamela and Ron Steele. At their own expense they would like to welcome us to view their beautiful garden. Pamela will conduct us on a walk-around and will be happy to talk about the many and varied plants.

They will provide coffee on arrival, refreshment during the morning and Cava before we leave for lunch. They hope that each person attending will be willing to contribute just €3 to Central Office funds. This will be collected together with the charge for lunch, which will be €18 (inclusive of all administration costs).

For a total of €21 it promises to be an interesting and informative morning followed by an excellent lunch at L’Echalotte restaurant which is located about 500 metres from Pamela and Ron’s villa.

The committee loses Margaret and Gerald Hales – whom we thank for the good work they did. With regret I have accepted their resignations from the Branch and wish them well. Sadly, John Tucker is no longer able to remain on the committee as his schedule makes it difficult for him to commit to long periods in Spain. John has been a valued member of the committee for many years, we look forward to seeing him back in Spain soon at our future functions.

Information about standing for the committee will be sent round soon along with the excellent menu for the post AGM dinner. Margaret has already received six new nominations for the next committee, which reflects the enthusiasm we all have that Conservatives Abroad Javea Branch continues in good form and spirit.

Margaret has worked tirelessly throughout her term in office and I am sure that everyone in the Association appreciates everything that she has done for the Branch.

…so I thought you might like a little background to the website…

I took over the website, as site admin, in February 2009,  just before my mother, Mai Griffin, became the Chairman. Mai started the website in 1999, initially running it side by side with the CAVA newsletter that she also ran for various Chairmen having started that a few years before. Mai ran it continuously, designing it to fit the various needs of different chairmen, using web-space kindly contributed by members (notably the late Audrey Crawford) until space became an issue and the site was upgraded to a more settled space – behind www.antiquesreview.co.uk, where it has happily nestled for more than five years, until this week.

The photo archives are a testimony to the work that she did and to the many members and committees who helped fill it over the years with content and activity. The current blog format dates from when Margaret Hales took over as Chairman – to make it easier for members and the committee to work with the website to bring you information and to allow easy access to what was happening at CCHQ. Key committee members were given their own logins so that they could author information directly to the site, without needing detailed technical knowledge, beyond a general familiarity with word processing.

This week the website finally graduated onto its own space on its own server!! No more will you type in javeaconservatives.org and discover when you look again that you have strayed onto some other space, or someone else’s backyard domain… From now on – wherever you are on the site, you should see javeaconservatives in your address bar – we hope that you approve… we are thrilled

Your feedback is always welcome – good or bad – the site is for you, therefore your opinion is important… so I have come out of my closet and will try to remember, in future, to post as ‘Gaile’ – but if I forget and lapse into the occasional ‘admin’ comment – my secret is now out Gaile (Griffin Peers)
